How to Flash an MTK (MediaTek) Keypad Phone

To flash an MTK (MediaTek) keypad phone, you need a computer, the correct flashing software (such as SP Flash Tool), the exact firmware for your device, and a USB cable. Flashing the wrong firmware can permanently damage your phone, so proceed carefully.

Prerequisites

  • A Windows PC (Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 recommended)
  • A USB data cable
  • Your phone charged to at least 50%
  • VCOM USB Drivers for MediaTek devices installed
  • Flashing Software: SP Flash Tool (Smartphone Flash Tool)
  • Stock Firmware (ROM) specific to your phone model (must include scatter.txt or .cfg file)
  • Data Backup: Flashing will erase all data, so back up important files

Step-by-Step Flashing Guide (Using SP Flash Tool)

  1. Download & Extract Files:
Download the SP Flash Tool and your phone’s stock firmware. Extract both files into separate folders on your computer.
  2. Install VCOM Drivers:
Install the MediaTek VCOM USB drivers on your PC.
  3. Open SP Flash Tool:
Go to the extracted SP Flash Tool folder and run flash_tool.exe as administrator.
  4. Load the Scatter File:
Open the Download tab → Click Scatter-loading → Select MTxxxx_Android_scatter.txt or the available .cfg file from your firmware folder.
  5. Configure Flash Settings:
Make sure the flashing mode is set to Download Only. Default settings are usually fine.
  6. Start Flashing:
Click the Download button in SP Flash Tool.
  7. Connect Your Phone:
Power off your MTK keypad phone and connect it to the PC using a USB cable. If required, press and hold Volume Up or Volume Down while connecting.
  8. Wait for Completion:
The flashing process will start automatically. Progress bar colors may appear in red, purple, and yellow. When finished, a green circle or "Download OK" message will appear.
  9. Finish:
Disconnect your phone and power it on. The first boot may take longer than usual.
Warning: Flashing the wrong firmware can permanently brick your device. Always double-check your phone model before flashing.
